This book was wonderful when I was studying for the OAT. I used this, the 1000 question Exam Krackers MCAT review books, Princeton Review MCAT verbal reasoning, Khan Academy videos, and every free online OAT and DAT test I could find (DAT only has one section different). I scored a 370 overall and 380 science. The Kaplan book was the most helpful for finding out exactly what material was going to be covered on the OAT. It covered pretty much everything I saw on the actual exam, but to get a high score, I really had to hammer the material into my brain with questions. The more questions you do, the higher your score will be. This book does not provide enough questions to do extremely well on the exam (even with the practice test at the end and the free test online). Doing the 1000 Q Exam Krackers books probably helped me the most. It helped me find my weaknesses after going through the Kaplan book. I got a 400 on the Biology section. I credit the Kaplan book. It covers everything you need to know. (I took the exam October 2014.)
Great guide for OAT. I have taken the OAT twice. The first time, I did not use this book. The second time, I used as a study guide and raised my Academic Average score by THIRTY points. Even though it did raise my academic average, I do plan on taking the OAT once more to hopefully raise my total science score (I did not get to the Chemistry and Physics sections before my last test). This book is THICK so be prepared. It really contains all you need to study for the tests to be ready. I just didn't get through the book before test day. I am excited to purchase the new 2015 one!
I used this book to study for the OAT, and it had a lot of information which helped me review. My only complaint is that I wish it had more practice questions. The review sections are great for helping you do a general overview, but you end up going into detail on your own.
I bought this book when I was getting ready to go to optometry school and it was great to have. It helped me out and was very affordable which I needed because I was going to school and needed to purchase these books.
The book is organized nicely. It has a good overview of all of the material you need to know. The thing that makes me give it two stars are all the typos! It really shows how unorganized and careless the authors are. There are a ton of mistakes in the chapters, and while you can get by and understand them, it's really annoying. The book is still a good overview nonetheless. The bio, gen chem, and ochem sections are good review. And the reading comprehension section is challenging. However, I feel like the math tests are too easy, compared to the other tests I have taken online. Do not count on Kaplan to prepare you for quantitative reasoning!
AWFUL review item to purchase. Former Kaplan lover, and I used to think they did great work. After this book, no way, no how. Filled with errors in both the biology and the chemistry portions, I stopped using this book lest I be taught or review things incorrectly and fail the exam miserably. Buyers BEWARE.
Haven't tested yet, however my experience with the book so far has been highly satisfactory. The book is concise and covers the vast amount of material necessary for this test. My only reservations are that there are a few errors throughout the literature and at times the brevity of some sections requires me to do some googling to fill in some blanks. Overall a worthy purchase.
The book was a good review of most of the things that will be encountered on the test. However it is filled with little errors scattered throughout that readers should look out for. They usually aren't big enough to affect learning, but it's good to be aware of them when doing some of the math questions.
