I can't stress enough how many nursing students before me stressed the importance of getting this book and starting it before classes. It was a book required by my school, however, I may have purchased it anyways on my own. It goes over all the math essential to nursing. I like the way the chapters are split up and it looks like it has enough examples and practice problems to allow you to learn the material properly. There is also a website that correlates with the book that has practice tests - so all around you can be prepared with this book.2 months after initial review.. I wanted to come back and add more to this review because I have been using this book for the last few months for my Pharmacology Nursing class at school. I LOVE this book! It is full of important, invaluable information pertaining to Nursing. It has lots of questions for practice so that you know that you know the calculations - the answers are in the back of the book and in many cases, it explains why the answer is what it is. If your school does not require this book, buy it anyways! It is easy to learn and thoroughly explains concepts. The book presents several different methods / formulas for working calculations, so it makes it easy to find one that works for you. Awesome book!! One that I will refer back to often over the next few years!
Seriously, this book is SELF TEACH! I totally learned all aspects of dosage calculation strictly by this book. My teacher was less than adept at teaching this. This is the best book EVER. If you are afraid of math, start at chapter one and work through, you will be totally Confident at the end of the book!
This book is very thorough in explaining every concept and with a lot of examples. I use to have a hard time learning and understanding fractions but this book makes it VERY easy & fun. I would highly recommend it anyone who is entering the nursing field - it breaks everything down & would be an excellent resource to study for the NCLEX exam later on.
Explains everything VERY well! They do the problems in a simple form not just in ratio like a lot of nursing professors.
Bought as a required text for RN program. Not very useful for me. There are a lot of practice questions even on simple math like adding and subtracting fractions. Practice questions are good but repeatedly doing the same type of questions especially the simple ones is a waste of time. What I like is that it the book shows different ways of calculating medication doses such as ration and proportion, dimensional analysis and formula method. It also has questions on how to read physician orders. I would say half of this book was useful to me because I did practice answering some of the questions. But it was not used in class and a student would have been okay even without buying this book.
Helped me pass all of my nursing school math exams with flying colors even though I never opened the book they required me to purchase. I studied this book the summer before starting nursing school and it was one of the best books I've ever purchased. It will help you understand and do well in nursing math calculations.
Recommend this book for pre-nursing, 1st semester nursing, respiratory, and paramedic students. Great way to brush up on calculations and become comfortable with the process. Calculating doses can be tricky- this book presents the material in a straightforward manner that is easy to understand. Recommended!
So we had to have this book for a Clinical Math class. No biggy.. it was help though and it does explain, in decent detail, what the calculations are doing, and in some instances, how to do them differently. That was sort of nice as one way of doing calc's clicks for some and another way for others. Good book! Decent amount of practice questions too!
