As a hospital pharmacist, use of multiple references becomes a daily experience. In some institutions where I worked prior to embracing retirement, on-line references were a some-time benefit. To supplement this some years ago, I began using the Lexicomp Drug Information Handbook, with new editions available every two years. The beauty of this reference is the set-up of the drug monographs and it's "down-and-dirty" style. Dosages for the various indications? It's right there! Renal kinetics? Right there! Drug-drug interactions? Right there! My biggest problem with having the latest edition was protecting it from the other pharmacists in the department trying to 'permanently borrow it'!As I updated the editions, I would give the past edition to a student pharmacist or nurse who would benefit from its information. While somewhat larger than a 'pocket edition', I consider it my 'go-to' reference whenever I require concise drug information.
So far I am extremely happy with my purchase. I knew this was an expensive book, but I didn't care as long as it contains the medication info I need. You get a good explanation of the medication and its use. This book is endorsed by the American Pharmacists Association. It is laid out nicely. The medications are listed in red, followed by brand names, etc. Everything you need to know about a medicine is laid out in clear English.
Always well written, concise. A marvelous resource for those of us who prefer a tangible, in-hand reference.
I buy a new book every 3 years to stay current on the new meds.I always check a new med before I take it with the Drug Information book.
The best comprehensive resource, year after year.
