If looks could deceive .. wait, they can. Sitting down to read a chapter of this book seems like it's going to be a breeze, but instead you find yourself trudging through a jungle filled with quicksand and bear traps. Bold vocabulary words with vague at best definitions, conveniently not included in the summary. The summaries, by the way, are the only parts of this book worth reading. The author has no concept of how to be concise, and instead every sentence in a chapter is in a struggle to be heard as the most important. It gets better .. the instructor slides provided to go along with your 30 page chapter somehow manage to be 120 sides of irrelevant and unclear examples. In short, if your professor thinks that using this book is a good idea, the class is probably going to be a nightmare (one in which you die of boredom). This is coming from a 4.0 Junior.
Purchase this for girlfriend's BUS 313 course. The book was purchased as used, but arrived looking like new. Nothing to really say about the book itself as the professor chose this and it isn't something you read for fun.. Lets hope I get something out of it..
I used this text at my college last semester for an upper-division course in economics--International Trade and Finance. Overall, it was a well-written, easy-to-read textbook. If I were asked to point out one of its faults, I would have to say that the author could have had, at times, broken the graphs down more simply than he did. Otherwise, economics is economics: Unless it is your thing, it is largely dry and boring. Still, the chapters that spoke directly to international trade theories were quite interesting.
His regional or area treatments are his strongest feature. My only complaint is that, as far as I can tell, he does not bring them up-to-date while the book is being used. I find that I have to do some heavy lifting in that regard along with my students. BREXIT, for example, is potentially a big game changer for the European area. Also, the book does not cover Africa. All in all, the text is my favorite nonetheless. A. Velez
Was considering using it for students who are new to economics and particularly international economics, but then I realised it was not truly international as there was hardly anything on Africa where most of the resources that have allowed a western based economics system to exist is covered!!!!
Very clearly written and excellently priced. Instructors should not teach straight from this text because most things are so straight forward, but instead should supplement this text with interesting readings, discussions, projects, activities, etc.
Good, sturdy book. Needed it for school and it was half of the price of what my school was selling for so THANK YOU.
I just wish the professor was as good as the process of getting this book. There was some high lighting on the pages but the book for its age was in very good condition. This edition of the book is exactly the same as the 5th edition with the exception of some of the examples. Will be going through again to get my books, wont be paying those high prices at the book store!!!
