I haven't found a Dummies book yet that was bad. Have problems understanding some of it, but that is because I am still trying to use my old 8-inch by 10-inch view camera that I learned photography on. A lot of things to learn, but it is broken down where you can go through sections and understand it.
If you bought a Nikon D7200 then you’re probably no dummy and this book will probably not be of much value. I’m sorry to say that I wasn’t really impressed and am looking into other authors now. It might beat reading the manual that came with the camera, but just barely. The book might work well for others, but Dummies books should probably be relegated to the lower-end models. I was stuck needing more information and this was all I could find at the time (the camera was just released). Now there are a couple of great books out (more expensive, but much more thorough) that you should look at too. Download a sample chapter to see if it reads well for you.
I was surprised the reviews weren't great and I'm really glad I gave this book a try. I just bought the d7200 after using primarily my iPhone for pictures. This book has been a lifesaver and I have learned quite a bit so far. I'm only halfway through but I'm very happy I bought it. There is so much to learn about this camera but it's written in a way that I can go back and re-read certain sections to make sure I know exactly what feature controls what. It's been helpful and easy to understand.
This is certainly the "missing user's manual" for the D7200, as the one that Nikon supplies offers little guidance of what features to use when. I would have liked additional material on using an external flash, both on-camera and sync'd, and some sample images of how the features can be used and mis-used. Overall, though, I see this an essential book for the new D7200 owner.
I'm a dummy when it comes to technical things and this book is daunting. I'm trying to take notes, and find that if I sit with the camera and the book, it's more helpful. There is just so much to learn. Even for the auto settings. I'm not saying it's bad. It's just that as a complete novice in this area, I'm going to need a lot of time.
Made the change from a 12 year old Canon Rebel to a Nikon D7200 and I was so lost that even the manual was confusing. If I'd not been able to purchase this book to acquaint myself with not only the camera, but the lingo, I would not have been able to use it successfully. I wouldn't say that I'm an actual "dummy," however I do find myself less able to follow nomenclature heavy instructions. Perhaps it's my age (mid 40s) and lack of formal training in technologically advanced products in recent years, but sometimes it feels that today's descriptions and instructions are in another language or code. I suppose the D7200 would be a simple camera to master for these young people building their own computers and writing their own code, but for this Mom? I would have been lost without the book. With the book, I was able to learn quickly and reference issues later. It goes in my camera backpack for important events just so I can make sure I know exactly what's going on if I have a problem. Nobody paid me or gave me anything for this review.
Good book and easy to understand. It is a basic book and will get you started taking pictures if you are new to the camera world. I would start with this book and see how you do and then if you want more info you can find more detailed books.
the d7200 was my first serious camera. This book showed me what every button and dial does with about a weeks worth of light reading. this is a far better teaching tool than the camera's manual.
