This is like most "Dummies" books--written for maximum clarity, which in this case includes screen shots and color photos. There are four main sec tions -- (1) Getting Started. Enough camera instructions that even for those who are using a dSLR for the first time, they will be able to take good photos (and not have to keep it in "Auto", though, of course, that's okay in its own way.).(2) Control--over exposure, depth of field, focus, and color(3) Playback and organizing picture and movie files (there's good instruction on taking movies with the camera, an often overlooked feature of the EOS)(4) Tips -- customizing the camera and experimenting with useful features you might not know about. The first Rebel came out in 2003 and was the first dSLR under $1000. The concept's the same but the camera's come a long way in offering more options and simpler performance. The writer assumes that for most readers this will be their first dSLR, moving up from a point and shoot camera, so there is a lot of basic instructional information suitable for those kinds of beginners. There is also suitable information for those who are not only beginners with using a dSLR but who are also beginning in photography. The book also has information for more advanced users, those familiar with dSLRs who are just getting used to the set up, menus and features of a new Canon camera. This book is good for many different kinds of users--even, imo, including those who already have the EOS. For me at least, I often use a camera in a specific way and consequently ignore a lot of features I'd get a lot out of but have forgotten about because, with my usual settings in place, I don't need them.
