The work of contemporary artist Carrie Mae Weems (b. 1953) hits hard with a powerful mix of lived life and social commentary. I admire this artist enormously and have tried to include all of her books in my art book collection This book covers the material included in her outstanding retrospective and I'm so eager for it to be shown at a museum in my area. Till then, I've this book.
I received the book earlier than the deadline. I believe it was the last book that the seller had in stock. The hardcover with a black cloth fabric was a bit wrinkled or not glued completely flat. Otherwise the book was in good shape. I'm particularly interested in this book of Carrie Mae Weems' photography as there have been 2 shows in NYC.
Carrie Mae Weems' work is amazing, but this catalog does not do it justice. A lot of the images and text are so small that the images are difficult to decipher and some of the text is impossible to read. She deserves a better preservation of her work.
Good narrative, nice layout, great photography. Definitely recommend to individuals who like photography. I highly recommend purchasing this book about a phenomenal photographer/artist.
Saw Carrie's outstanding photography exhibition at Stanford University in Palo Alto recently, and purchased the book for my husbands birthday.She is unique and a treasure!
