Just bought this book in the park. I already have numerous other hiking books for Acadia but what drew me to make this purchase was the detailed trail maps. I finished paging through the book and so far what I really like besides the maps is the descriptions indicating if the trail is suitable for dogs. We do all our hiking with our two labrador retrievers. We looked at the rating system the authors used (and liked how they developed the rating scale) and found it to be somewhat accurate based on the mountains/hikes we have already climbed. If I was to write a book on the hiking trails I would add a rating system for dogs also; just because a trail is dog friendly (no ladders or rungs) doesn't mean a dog can do it unless it is a very agile dog. Another point I liked about the book is that they included the former names of the trails. Acadia went back to using original trail names which is confusing when looking at an older hiking book. The authors included the new trail names but also refer the reader to the former name. We will be trying a few of the hikes in the book in the next week and a half.

This book is FANTASTIC. Just spent 2 weeks in Acadia and this book was indispensable. Here's why:* Hikes for all levels, beginner to expert.* Excellent directions to trail heads.* Summary at beginning and end of each hike description. Another book I purchased did not include a summary so I had to take the time to write out trail directions.* Trail hike times were pretty accurate.* The author has excellent knowledge of the park from history to plant life to wildlife to which trails are crowded vs. those that are not.* Maps of trails included on the trail description page.* It was easy to turn some hikes into loop trails on the fly. There are so many trail options in this book I couldn't even hike them all in 2 weeks. I also did not find this book too heavy or too bulky to take along on hikes, it fit in my Camelbak no problem.I hope this author comes out with a book for biking in Acadia. I'm sure it would be better than all the other options out there.

I can see this book being of great use in planning this years hiking trip up there to find the trail choices that best meet my interest and abilities.

Liked how at the beginning of the book she categorized trails based on such features as mountain top, loops, etc.

Good comprehensive guide to hikes, trails, and lay of the land.
