If you are considering investing in commodities, coffee is the ideal place to start. The majority of the world’s coffee production occurs in Africa, Asia and South & Central America. In fact, the largest coffee exporters are Brazil, Columbia and Vietnam. The biggest importer of coffee should be no surprise, it's the US. We Americans absolutely love our coffee; we purchase over 50% of the world’s production. The interesting thing about coffee is that as far as consumption goes, it does not seem to matter whether the price is up or down, consumption stays the same. How many Americans visit Starbucks on a daily basis? In recent news we have seen good examples of factors that drive the price of coffee and other commodities; the first was the unprecedented drought in Brazil followed by a leaf fungus that slowed production in Central America. Prices have risen by 10% in the last few weeks. Other factors that can influence coffee prices are: politics, transportation, trade restrictions and global warming. Adams does a good job of illustrating the methods that you can use to invest in coffee and commodities…..a good read for all traders.
Who dosen't love coffee??!! Personally I love coffee, so maybe I will be bias with this review because of that alone, no I'm just joking. Moving onto the important stuff, the guide by Justin Adams was a solid read, not bad at all, good insight, basic yet informative information given through-out. Besides learning about trading coffee there was also good background knowledge given on where coffee comes from (for those that don't know). Price drivers for coffee, purchasing stock in coffee companies, trading coffee, coffee trading options, an example of trading coffee options was also given to provide a little more in depth insight. The only drawback to this guide would be some repetition in the information shared, but not overkill. I would recommend this guide, and when you read it, make sure you have your coffee!!
