Love this book! It is written simply and it's easy to follow. Most text books are lengthy and wordy - this book is not. I learned so much and enjoyed reading it. It's not written just for counseling students but for everyone. Highly recommend for students, teens, parents, and anyone working with or experiencing those who have an addiction.
One of my biggest fears when reading textbooks is the text would be drier than the Sahara desert. I'm so glad this book isn't one of them.I rented this book for one of my classes, and I must say, it's informative and actually interesting to read. It offers new perspectives on treating SUD and easy to follow along. I like it so much that I'm actually considering buying it (when I'm back to the labor force and actually earning money again. Don't blame a grad student for being broke).
This is the ultimate, up to date text for all addictions professionals. I was fortunate to begin using this book right after it was published for teaching my classes in Substance abuse, and use it as a reference point for information and where to find additional information. This is one of the best books I've found in my 20 years as an addictions professional.
I really enjoy reading this book. It is required for a course I'm taking at school, but actually doesn't feel like I'm reading a textbook at all. Easy to follow, all the while detailed information.
I really value this book and use it regularly in my practice since it came out. It has great integration of therapeutic models; I really like the review of Motivational Interviewing [which started at UNM, where the authors are from], couples' counseling, and individualizing treatment plans. Very well done! Thank you for this invaluable resource.
This became may primary source for my Master's class on Substance Use Counseling. Great information and the chapters are broken down into quick reference bites, making it easy to find information.
This book was a nice change from most college textbooks that I have read. I'm not sure that it can even be considered a textbook, but we used it for our class. There are nice examples of documents that are useful for counseling individuals with a variety of issues.
The book is full of relevant information. The authors are highly regarded in the addiction profession. The information contained in the book is up to date and follows current addiction science.
