I have many of Steve McCurry's photograph books and have also given them as gifts. To find that through this book he shared the stories behind the photographs, well, it made for a wonderful afternoon of photo viewing. And, as an aside, through an interview on television, he stated that he, due to an accident, could only use one arm to shoot these astonishing photos, made his accomplishments even more special. Highly, highly recommended!!
I have many of Mr. McCurry's photo books. Adding a lot of back stories to his amazing photography immensely enhanced this book. I highly recommend this book to everyone. This is a book that I started reading and then couldn't put down; both for the narrative and the always amazing photography.
This book has many of his iconic photos plus the stories behind them. The print quality is excellent, probably as good as the prints in his Iconic book and they are large prints. You will spend many hours to finish it. This book is a bargain!
This is a missed opportunity - there is not nearly enough here on McCurry's approach to photography. While some of the stories are compelling, the stories are second-hand, not written by Steve, and they often feel distant. While the photographs are amazing, there is far too much space give over to copies of his travel documents - page after page of these. What a waste of space! This space should have been devoted to more great images. Or there could have been more alternate images that didn't become featured, and he could have discussed what worked with some but less so with others - this would truly make for an insightful, educational experience. There is a section like this with an alternate version of the famous Afghan girl. There could have been more of these.
If only I could have joined him. A life full of adventure with some stunning photographic records to remember it by. I have been to some of the same places and Steve has captured on film the images I recall in my memory. The travel ephemera really appealed as well as I am guilty of the same.
Such a beautiful book. I've always loved McCurry's photography. This book has amazing print quality and fascinating information about some of the more interesting periods in McCurry's increadile career. Must own for any fan the the real golden age of Nat Geo.
These are iconic photographs and to read the stories behind them makes this book a five-star. The printing is beautiful and I highly recommend it for everyone.
