Very good book. Lots of trails that I would have never known about. The trails are broken up into regions around the lake, making it easy to plan outings for where ever you are going.
I've used this book (and the Tahoe Adventure Map) as solid resources for getting to know the Truckee/Tahoe area over the last few years. I can't speak to the previous reviewer's GPS comment because I don't usually use GPS to navigate, but the book has been very helpful for finding trails to ride, getting to trailheads, and navigating through areas such as Antone Meadows where there are lots of junctions.A few routes have changed since the book was written, including the Tahoe Rim Trail - Tahoe City north (same start, but the first part was re-routed a couple years ago) and the TRT in the Kingsbury area, where there's new trail mileage to bypass pavement near Heavenly Valley and new trail mileage to/from Stateline. The Angora area was severely damaged by fire a few years ago; only the southernmost section remains (though there are plans to rebuild the northern part of the trail).
Overall this is a great book...highly recommend it to anyone unfamiliar with the Lake Tahoe area who wants to maximize their time in the area. Keep in mind the altitude factor as your first "moderate" ride may become a "difficult" ride due to exertion. (I live at 5000 feet and am in good shape but the extra 2000-3000 feet of altitude in Tahoe was felt the first few days)I have completed several of the rides in this book so far and all played out pretty much as written. One exception I found was Gun Mount Loop (ride 26)...a fire burned a fair bit of the early part of this ride and it changed things (especially finding "the" power pole mentioned at mile 0.8). However, I was able to pick up the trail eventually and had a great day!Highly recommend this book...I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I think it's ready for an update.
Nice book, nice maps, nice descriptions, poor GPS. If you can't find a book with better GPS info., then this one works well. Maps are good, descriptions have enough detail too.
not enough trails just touristy stuff
