I bought the 4th edition of this book. How useful this book is to you depends on what you're looking for. Part 1 of the book is mostly theory. You've got preoperative assessment, principles of surgery, infection control etc. Part 2 deals with armamentarium, principles of exodontia etc. Useful info for dental students. However, you probably don't need more than 50% of it to pass your exams. For those who are just out into private practice, chapters on complicated exodontia, management of impacted teeth, preprosthetic surgery and implant surgery may be useful. For me, I have already been doing these procedures for years. Most of the info in these chapters is not new to me, but there are still some useful tips, even for experienced practitioners.Of course, this is not a book that focusses on implant surgery, so don't expect too much info in this area. As an active implant practitioner, I find the info a bit outdated. There are much simpler prostho components nowadays and I can't imagine using an external hex implant anymore. Having said that, there is good introductory info in this field. The newbie should be able to learn quite a bit.The chapters on reconstruction of clefts, defects, injuries are probably useful to postgrad students. I'm not able to comment here.
This is one of the best dental text books I have had to purchase. Reading is straightforward and easy to understand. It has plenty of illustrations. A very well done text. Best if electronic copy available.
This text is good for the dental student and general practitioner. Outdated implant section, but that is not the focus of this book. It provides a basic overview of full scope oral surgery operations, but target audience is dental students and general practitioners, not the OS resident. I read this book cover to cover as a dental student and for those pursuing a residency it is a good text to finish before starting Peterson's two volume.
The book is extremely well organized, thoughtful, mostly evidence based and sometimes inflected with personal opinion based on the authors years of experience. The references are extensive. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writing and photos were excellent. If you need one Oral Surgery text, this is it.
This text is a must have for any GP looking for a comprehensive, yet concise reference. Great, up-to-date information an a broad spectrum of OMFS topics.
Very concisely written and precise description of most of oral surgery procedures. Highly recommended for students, general dentist and oral surgeons.
i heard the 6th edtion will be available in the May, anyway this is a good book for the maillofacial surgery
It is a good reminder that we meet at our routine job. Some hints and some you are missed can find it here.
