I bought this book to help me prepare for my pre-doctoral internship in psychology and found it to be quite useful. It covers a wide range of topics including how to decide which sites are a good fit for you, filling out the AAPI applications, tips and examples for the essays and cover letters, interview suggestions and sample questions, and general info about the match process. Not only did it help me to have a better understanding of the process but it was really useful in providing some guidance in writing my essays and cover letters. Of course, lots of people use this book so you can't just copy the examples. At this point, I have quite a handful of interviews so I think my applications were well received and have found this book to be helpful every step of the way.
I am generally pretty skeptical of books like this, but I bought it for help in writing the standard APAGS essays. The advice in the book helped me to polish my essays to an extent that my very fussy advisor made only minimal suggestions to my drafts. My main complaint is that the book has not been updated to reflect the online APPI submission process.
A good reference guide for applying to internships. However, I found the sample cover letters to be a sufficient for sites requiring you to be pithy, but my experience has been that the fuller bodied letter (1-2 pages with several paragraphs) gets better feedback.Sample questions for interviews and interviewees are excellent to help prepare and organize your thoughts and experiences. I used this book and reviewed it with my academic advisor and professors, which brought up additional questions that might be asked and specific items that an interviewee would want to include in their answers.Helpful, but don't neglect important LIVE resources!
Great book whether you have a lot of guidance during the internship process or only a little. The book provides great essay examples and instructions for the whole application process from start to finish. Definitely recommend.
I think this book has a lot of helpful tips and guidelines. It would be nice if there were a newer edition, though, given that there have been so many changes to the application process since 2008.
It seems to me that it has very important information and very trivial information. I would definitely recomend this book. Just don't waste your time reading every single detail...
This book is up to date with the current trends in psychology internships, and is very useful in preparing for the internship process.
