This book is AMAZING for nursing students! Other students have looked through this book of mine and then purchased their own, because you can look up any lab value, and then reasons why it might be high, reasons why it might be low, dangerous levels, symptoms related to being high or low, nursing implications on how to correct it or just implications to watch out for with patients with these lab values. Also, this company provides the one year online access with the purchase of this book! So i am able to go to the website from my computer or phone and just type in the lab name and get all of the information without having to flip through my book. Its AWESOME!!!!!!!
The guide is clear and easy to use. It has too much information to paraphrase to my instructors liking AND the implications they so firmly insist upon are never the vague implications in this book, "Wash your hands." "Hold gauze on venipuncture site until it stops bleeding." They want to know if you need to be vigilant to asses for changes in level of consciousness or decreased respirations. That is not covered well here. What would have been better is if in the "Decreased in:" and "Increased in:" section there was a list of signs and symptoms. That way if the patient has low albumin levels, for example, you can look for different S&S for like liver damage vs. malnutrition.
This book is an excellent resource for the student or novice nurse to help able them to understand laboratory and diagnostic tests, and the nursing implications involved with your patient care. This book will definitely remain an item not for resale. It has become an invaluble tool in my nursing career.
I dont know if Im not doing something right or what, but i think finding information in this book is more complicated than it needs to be. I found myself just going online to find the information i need.*update*So, apparently its not just me. In my nursing class (25 students) not a single one likes or knows how to find any information they need in this book. we all just end up looking up lab tests and values up online. Makes a nice bookend though...
I used this book in my clinical setting and as a professional nurse. Great reference material I use it when I get lab values out of range and I am not quite sure how they are associated with a diagnosis.Saves time with homework assignments
Really good book. I purchased a different one previously, and then got the Pagana and Pagana on my Nook. This book is by far the best, I struggled looking for test results last year using the other two books purchased but everything has been super easy to find in this book. I am in my final year of nursing school and this book has been completely worth it, I wish I bought it a couple of years ago!
This is an excellent resource for nursing students or similar. I have gotten more use out of this than I have some of my required books from school. There is also a website you can utilize that is just as helpful.
This book is perfect to keep in your locker and look up that odd lab value and make sense of the whole picture. It is organized beautifully and makes finding a particular test value easy to find and understand. As a new nurse, it really helped me to understand and peice together what is happening in my patient so I can aticipate treatment and give them the best care possible.
