"Old Brooklyn in Early Photographs, 1865-1929" is simply a first-rate collection of selected photographs of my home town from just after The Civil War to the Depression. The text surrounding the photos are just enough to be informative without bogging down the pleasure of turning the pages. And like the other Dover compilation, "New York in the Ninenteenth Century", the quality of the printing and the strength of the spine are top-notch. A truly great book.

This is absolutely a must have for anyone who lives in or loves Brooklyn.I've walked the much less stately Promenade, now missing the greenhouse and Montague Street ferry dock. Seen trash stuffed into the latticed metal supports of the El (now JMZ) over Broadway. (That hasn't changed.) And I've imagined grass growing on Bedford Ave. There used to be farms there! This book even includes photos of Coney Island landmarks, Dreamland and Luna Park. Astroland had nothing on Luna. You could plotz. It was gorgeous.

The book "Old Brooklyn in Early Photographs, 1865-1929" arrived in good time and exceeded my expectations in terms of condition of the book, and the content.I had a great aunt who was born in Brooklyn in 1884 and lived there until the family lost contact with her in 1910. The book provided me with an insight into what a young woman of the time would have seen and experienced while growing upIt was a pleasure to do business with the seller

This book is for those who like me are always getting a thrill of seeing and standing possibly in the same spot a person stood in 100 years ago or more. This book will catapult you to a time of I dare say of a more innocent time a slower paced time... When folks had more time for the little things in life. There I go again getting all historical again. Anyway buy it. If your into history you'll love this book.

Wonderful book with beautiful pictures and stories of Brooklyn long ago. Anyone who has ties to the Borough of Kings will enjoy looking through this trip down memory lane.

This book has brought to life many scenes from my family's past in Brooklyn during the 1800s. I've been doing family tree research, looking extensively at Census records. Those records provide street addresses and general areas within Brooklyn, but this book adds the missing visuals that bring it all into context. Excellent photo collection.

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and even though it has been over 40 years I still have fond memories of Brooklyn. I felt that the narrative was informative and realistic and it refreshed my memories of facts about the city that I either forgot about or informed of facts I didn't even know. The pictures also helped out very much.

If you are interested in what Brooklyn was like before it turned into the hipster mecca of today, you will be fascinated by this excellent book. I've had family living in Brooklyn from the early 1900s until fairly recently, and was myself astonished at the wonderful photos of so many things I had never known existed.
