Whether you’re caring for patients on the ground or in the air, this trusted, one-of-a-kind resource is an essential tool for your success in transport nursing. The 4th edition has been extensively revised to keep you up to date with the latest technological advances and help you meet the ever-changing needs of this critical nursing field. Comprehensive overviews familiarize you with the most common diseases and injuries encountered in practice, accompanied by important management considerations to help you ensure the most effective communication and the safest patient care in all transport settings. Case studies presented at the end of each clinical chapter demonstrate how to apply concepts to scenarios similar to those you’ll encounter in practice. Special Populations Unit helps you meet the unique care needs of pregnant, neonatal, pediatric, and military patients. Competencies listed at the beginning of each chapter help you identify key components of effective patient care. Collaborative, multidisciplinary focus meets the educational and reference needs of all transport health care providers and emphasizes the importance of teamwork in ensuring successful patient outcomes. 3 new chapters highlight emerging trends in transport care: The Use of Technology During Transport, including ventricular assist devices, a chapter devoted to Mechanical Ventilation, and Military Transport with EnRoute care. Updated content throughout provides a balance of ground and air coverage and reflects the recently published Flight and Ground Transport Nursing Core Curriculum to help you prepare for the CTRN or CFRN examination. Expanded disaster management coverage addresses front-line response to major disasters. Expanded disaster management coverage addresses important concerns for improving front-line response to major disasters. Additional pathophysiology content helps you better understand the effects of diseases and injuries on the body’s normal physiologic processes. Clear instructions for reading radiographs and CT scans simplify the use of these diagnostic tools and help you improve related outcomes. Information based on the latest updates from the Federal Aviation Association and the National Transportation Safety Board alerts you to important safety regulations. Obesity considerations included in the Patient Assessment and Preparation for Transport chapter outline special challenges and possible solutions for the care of obese patients.

I had and earlier edition of this book and read it cover to cover when aspiring to be a flight RN. Overall, I love this book and the content covered. However, years later, and having been a flight RN for a while now, I'm reviewing this book for the CFRN exam and finding it fails to meet my needs on a few levels. There is a lack of graphics to support and enhance learning. For example, explaining the cerebral circulation warrants a simple graphic of the circulation, no? I, for one, learn better when visuals accompany complex or confusing topics.Additionally, there are wasted chapters on things like Military Transport, yet the SCI chapter, for example, does not even briefly review the spinal cord syndromes. Another example is that the small section on "near drowning" uses outdated nomenclature. The term "near drowning" was thrown out back in 2002 at the international conference on drowning and adopted by the WHO and CDC. When one updates an edition, they need to do their homework. The authors should not rest on your laurels, knowing that there is no alternative text. They should break down every chapter, every graphic, every section and make it better. Just my personal review.

I just passed my CFRN and this book was my main reference for it. Great information if you are new to flight nursing and need a go-to textbook.

I purchased this book as a guide to critical care nursing and to help with the CFRN exam. This book is very well written and has lots of detailed information. The only reason I knocked off a star was that the book reads like stereo instructions and has small print which only allows for 2-3 hours of reading before you have to put it down and take a break.

If your job is in critical care transport, whether its flying or ground, nursing or paramedic this book is your guide to understanding your roles and others during transport. This book will guide you through the physiological and principle aspects of all you need to know. This book is a must for any review for your CEN, CFRN, or FPC. If you work in the ED, or in Paramedicine this book will help you understand more about your patient and the interaction needed to help you prepare your patients for any type of transport.

This book is really helpful. I am using it to get my FP-C and it is loaded with all the information that I need for the test. Although not written specifically for paramedics, it is a must for anyone getting ready for the FP-C.

A well laid out book that gives examples of various parts of the critical care environment. This is not light reading by any means but the material is easy to understand if you understand the critical care environment. A must have for those taking the FP-C exam.

This book has a lot of good information. but when you read it, you notice it repeats the same information twice in back to back paragraphs. and there seems to be a lot of redundant information. for example, early in the book the author post a graph about crash statistics, then spends 2 pages breaking down the information by various years, and through the eyes of various studies and reports. it just seems that the graph would be enough.warning to those who are already street medics. there is a lot of information that you would already know like scene procedures, hazards. how ground crews work and integrate with other responders. so basically in the first 150 pages, there is only maybe 5 pages of worthwhile new information regarding the specifics of flight physiology (but thats also covered later on in more depth)

Using this text and others to further my knowledge as well as teach young medics for flight care. Easy to read and material structure flows well. It also assists in studying for CFRN. I would recommend this to anyone interested in transport care.
