I was excited when I found this book on . I didn’t know the author, but the forward is by John Carter-who I respect as a trader. But I don’t think he actually read the book. In full disclosure I got the book at the library, i didn’t buy it - and am glad i didn’t and would not recommend this confusing, sometimes WRONG, and sometimes deceitful book to any beginner.I also DID NOT read the section on futures. I do not want to trade futures. I didn’t start taking notes of my problems with this book until page 70-something. I will first give you some of the general problems of the book, then some of the details. The biggest problem is I don’t think she actually tells you how to figure the risk reward on the spread trades she examples. She tells you how much MONEY you can make, Like the $53 you can make on a Netflix $275/$270 put credit spread on page 140, but doesn’t tell you your risk is $447. She never tells you what to do WHEN THINGS GO WRONG, like on the very same NFLX trade, when you could be down over $120 the next day.She makes frequent mention of the “Foundation Indicator” which only seems to be available soon on her website. No mention of price yet.She describes herself as a technical trader, but only refers to “support and resistance” as “exponential moving averages” completely ignoring that actual trades on charts, that create all kinds of formations like Triangles, flags, head and shoulders, etc are what is generally thought of as what creates “support and resistance” As John Murphy says…”Support and resistance represent key junctures where the forces of supply and demand meet.” A moving average MAY be S/R, maybe not.

Sarah's book on options is great book that shares great strategies to trade. The book gets down to the basics. There is a little bit of everything in the book, really an overview of trading. The trading humor at the beginning of each chapter made me chuckle. There are hundreds of options trading strategies, Sarah has focused on a few key strategies making them easy to understand and learn. There are many complicated trading books out there that tell you that you need to be complicated to make money. Sarah proves both in her book and trading live on her website that anyone can trade and it doesn't have to be complicated. I am happy to see a new book on trading out there. The book discusses many markets to trade and really focuses on futures and options. As an options trader myself, I appreciated the steps she outlined to read price charts and also to actually place a trade. There are a ton of good examples of actual trades in this book. The examples really helped me understand what was being discussed. I think it says a lot that she explains how she trades and also provides visual examples. In the book the biggest barrier to trading is learning all of the trading terminology, she breaks down the jargon of options and does a great job breaking down the essential terms needed to trade. The book explains the reasons that most options traders lose money and how professional options traders are taking the other side of the trade and making money, it changed my mind set about trading.Throughout the book Sarah shares many of her personal stories and experiences in the markets. I found I related to many of them. It just made me feel good to know that I'm not alone. Her tips are practical and while some might seem obvious, it is always a good reminder.

Chapters 1-3 seem to be written primarily for beginners, but later the book introduces some advanced concepts that most beginners may not follow. In particular, the text on option trading may not make sense to someone who is just “breaking into options” as the title page suggests. Some knowledge of the Black, Scholes, Merton equation (or equivalent) along with the Greeks (Delta, Vega, Theta, Rho and Gamma) is critical to understanding the risk / rewards of trading options. Most trading books dedicate at least one chapter to these concepts, but this one never mentions the equation and has less than a page (Page 129) on the Greeks. Yet the book assumes that the reader understands them. For example, the trading rules and setup for directional trades say to buy options with “Low implied volatility” at “a strike that balances premium paid and delta.” (pages 174 and 175). The book never defines implied volatility or discusses the relationship between an option’s premium and delta. On numerous occasions the book states that volatile stocks have expensive options. For example, Page 81 states, “In options trading , as volatility increases so will the premium in the price of the option.” Volatility affects an option's theoretical price, but the actual price is set by market. Theoretical and actual values for options often do not correlate and are never the same. During earnings season and surprise announcements, such as mergers and acquisitions, an option’s price often implies a volatility that is much higher than the stock’s volatility. Even index volatilities, which are not as sensitive to earnings or surprises, can significantly differ from the volatility implied by the index options.
