I recently sat for the advanced practice holistic nurse exam and I am very disappointed to say that in hindsight this book was not useful to me at all. I would have been better off had I just reviewed the "Holistic Nursing: a handbook for practice" book instead.One major failing is that the test questions at the end of each chapter are the EXACT questions offered on the textbook's online access study/testing area. I did the questions at the end of each chapter as sort of a pre-test, used that to help guide my study, then at the end went online to do the test offered there to see what my score would be post-study. I was shocked to discover the online questions were the exact same questions as found at the end of each chapter in the book! That was very disappointing to discover and to be honest, I felt very cheated by this.The author and/or publisher should have a large enough test bank that the questions are not the same as found in the book as well as offering online study tests in addition to a final practice exam - all with different questions. When you log into the online site it appears to be this way, but once you begin the questions you quickly realize they are all the same.I do not feel studying this text was a good prep for the actual board exam. I found a huge emphasis on research on the actual exam, I'd say 1/4 to 1/3 of all the questions on the exam were research related. I hadn't expected that at all, and to be honest I don't recall all the ins and outs of conducting research as I don't do it on a routine basis and I hadn't known that it was an area that I needed to review in such depth. The information emphasized for each chapter in this review book did not seem to be the same information/knowledge that was emphasized on the online exam. I'm sure there may be some randomness to the questions each person receives on the actual exam, but overall it seemed so far off from the review book's emphasis. I had reviewed many areas in the actual Holistic Nursing handbook and I would say that was my best preparation beyond the knowledge I already have on the subject.It is possible that for the standard holistic nursing exam this book may be helpful, since that is not the exam I took. However, I can't imagine that the questions for the advanced practice would be so far off from the questions of the standard holistic nursing exam to make that big of a difference. The bummer is that this is pretty much the only study guide and practice tests out there. The organization that administers the exam also offers a practice test, however, they state that they do not tell you the answers to the questions you miss, so it isn't a helpful study tool because of that (which again does not make much sense).If you are planning to take the exam I strongly advise you to instead just review each chapter in the most current edition of the Holistic Nursing: a handbook for practice. And, if you intend to take the advanced practice exam make sure you review all the specifics related to conducting research as well.

Need I say more? I love new books! This one arrived before I expected it and was delivered by USPS via UPS so no wondering if I would have to go to the UPS office to pick it up because I wasn't home on the times they tried to deliver..
