One of the world's most famous magicomedians and ventriloquists discusses every aspect of his art and reveals tricks of the trade. George Schindler, the Dean of the Society of American Magicians, has kept audiences spellbound for more than forty years. In this guide for beginners and experienced ventriloquists alike, he defines the art and offers practical advice as well as inspiration.Starting with basic "vent" techniques, Schindler discusses the cultivation of a variety of voices and explains how to make puppets appear lifelike. He also presents helpful suggestions for putting an act together, developing comedy material and scripts, and even handling bookings and publicity. Thirty-eight figures and photos illustrate basic and advanced techniques in addition to puppets and their movements.

I found this book to be very helpful. Diagrams were clear about tongue placement. One of the better books I have studied.

This book is an incredible resource for people who may love ventriloquists, but for the rest of us - it's a reminder how god awful scary the dummies really are. Does anyone remember the movie Magic with Anthony Hopkins? I shutter as I write this.Creepy, creepy, scared scared, turn away turn away!

You need three things to become a ventriloquest: how to make lips sounds (p, b, v, f, w); how to change voice quality (distant, muffled, telephone); how to use ventiloquist figures. If you are coming from a deep phonetics background, with the practical ability to produce sounds, change voice quality, the only art you need is how to use ventriloquist figures and play dialogues.Substitutions for lip sounds is easy; chaging voice quality without messing up your vocal tract requires a different kind of traning or you can use the brute force method. Yes, there are some tidbits on these aspects. Can you become a ventriloquist just by reading and practising the book? Maybe, not. However, it is a good book on ventriloquism. This is an older edition, which contains more material than its newer counterpart.

Great detailed book for making a dummy, however you need to be a experienced modrl maker. Compleat detail clearly listed, but best for the experienced dummy maker

Great learning guide!
