For the last three editions of this book, nothing has changed. Hibbeler simply removes and changes problems sets. This book contains the exact same information as the 10th, 11th and 12th additions. The only difference is the order of problems. There is seemingly a pool of problems that Hibbeler pulls from at random to make different "editions" of his book. It's an embarrassing example of the criminal organization that is running college textbooks, requiring students to waste hundreds of dollars a semester when absolutely no new information is provided. Hibbeler is a crook, no one should be forced to buy this book and I hope the system changes soon.

I used this book for my Statics class in college, and honestly I wouldn't recommend it if you're trying to teach yourself or refresh your knowledge of statics. I am very happy that I only rented this rather than buying it.There are a bunch of practice problems in the book to help you practice the concepts, but honestly I felt like the book relied on the problems to teach you successfully, rather than having the problems as a bonus to the teaching of concepts. Additionally, the problems are organized into two different categories, and then arranged so that they happen right after the explanation of a concept, rather than all together at the end of the chapter. I felt like this detracted from the learning experience and also made finding problems a mess of flipping through the book.Overall, I felt like the explanations of concepts in this book did not justify its cost. I wouldn't recommend it.

This book contains many problems but little explanation on how to solve these problems. They also want you to purchase the solution manual because the solutions aren't given back of the book (only the F problems). If you are purchasing this for a class: pay attention in class because this book is pointless. If you are purchasing for any other reasons: buy a better book.

The book description says that MasteringEngineering "can be packaged with this edition." Well it's not. When I called they were unclear about whether or not it would be packaged. If you are looking to buy the book with a MasteringEngineering access code, look else where.

This book does not provide the access code needed for the book. When i contacted about the code i was told you had to order the study pack to get the access code.There were two codes included in the study pack but neither were the one associated with the textbook. Ended up having to spend $60 for my web access with info provided from prof last minute as I had homework due.

This is certainly not a perfect textbook, although I have yet to see one that can be characterized as that. It does however do a decent job of introducing/explaining the concepts, and does provide a lot of example problems. The examples pretty much allow you to work out all the "F" or fundamental problems in the book. And as you work through those you can figure out many (but not all) of the "regular" problems. Luckily the problem sets in the chapters are not full of just proofs, but there are a few.The main drawbacks are that the author sometimes assumes that you can follow the though process and either poorly explains steps or omits steps. Sometimes the omitted steps are relatively easy to follow, and sometimes not so much. This is a problem though that plagues almost every math and physics textbook out there. If you get a good teacher he or she should be able to fill in some of those gaps. If not you may need to supplement the book. There are a couple non-textbook statics guides out there, and the creator of math tutor DVD has just started creating a statics series. So far however he only has one volume that pretty much just covers the introductory material. Engineering Mechanics Statics Tutor - Volume 1I did want to address the one star review that accuses the author of creating multiple editions of the book and not changing anything. It is true that happens, but the authors have little control over that. The publishers are the ones who make that call, not the authors. It happens with every math and science related textbook. Realistically the concepts never change. Calculus and physics (which is basically all statics boils down to) have both been around for hundreds of years. The material does not change, yet new editions of all the books come out every few years. The publishing companies require new editions of the books to be released otherwise they will not publish the books. So the authors will change the order of the material a bit and reorder problems etc, and yes it is a total scam, but if you want to be angry blame the publishing companies.
