The book is very well organized with current information. The content makes the book useful as either a textbook or a reference book. It is well written which makes it not only easy to read but interesting to read. For visual learners, the book has simple illustrations which convey a great image for explaining information.

I was happy to see in the Preface that the proceeds of the book will be donated to support the advancement of health informatics education. I also appreciated the fact the links and articles in each chapter are provided electronically via the resource center. However, some of the chapters are marked as "reorganized" with no explanation. I would have to compare each one to understand what was changed. Some chapters do not have a "reorganized" version.I have not used the entire book yet because it is only the third week of classes, but the typesetting in the print version is distracting and disappointing, as is the index. There are pages where a section heading is at the bottom of one column and the associated text is in the next column (page 12, page 82). In Chapter 4, I couldn't find the section for Large Size Medical Practices - the heading for it is completely missing. Then, I finally found text for Epic, which would be in the section for Large Size Medical Practices. "Epic" is in the same font as the body of the document - it is not bold nor a larger font size - so It looks like it is part of the previous section, Medium Size Medical Practices. Since I was looking for Epic specifically for an assignment, I looked in the index and there isn't even a listing for it. Entries are also missing for privacy, analytics, informatics, data retrieval -or- information retrieval, and so on. The entry for online medical resources shows page 12. In actuality there is a whole chapter (#12) on the topic. I could go on and on.Editors, your proofreaders failed you. Hire me next time.

This is a well written textbook. It touches on all aspects of healthcare information technology in a crystal clear, practical comprehensive manner with cases, excellent examples, visual illustrations and videos, to name but a few.It makes my job as a professor much easier.

I like the content but the embedded images/tables/charts are useless. The image quality if very poor and difficult to read. To the authors:When the eBook was being created there is an option to optimize for size or quality and the builder clearly chose size. Also, please make sure the images are 300dpi whenever possible. You can update/manipulate image density for JPG files using a tool like PhotoShop or a free application like Paint.net.Please, please, please re-publish this with better quality images. Thanks.

Bought this for health informatics class. I love having the quick access via Kindle, but was frustrated about the "location" versus "page" problem when trying to determine how to cite this as a source. Other than that, I really do like the idea of being able to access a textbook from any device at any time. The content of the book is relevant and current and the author definitely showcases his expertise in the field. Also, he includes a lot of material which encourages further exploration. As a student, that is exactly what I hope for in a textbook. I have learned a lot from this book.

This book was purchased for school. I found it very interesting and up to date. It is well written, has lots of links to hep support the text, and it makes you research on your own. This would be a book I would keep in my libarary.

well written and functional. It is readable. Learning objectives allow indepth review of important areas. Not as thorough as Shortliffe and Cimino's authoritative tome but up to date and well thought out for someone training to be a CMIO or CIO.

My expectation of the book before I read it was not as like what I have found. Over all, it's a good book. I expected it to have more detail technical applications and practical skills on how to operate on certain application softwares. It is almost reading and case study posts. The likes of data analysis techniques, procedures or steps should be there. So, it appears that, "Never judge a book by its cover" is true in this case. I am not saying, it's bad, but my expectation was different, now I should go back to "youtube" to find out some steps, procedures, and techniques on how to run reports, run queries, and analyze data. But, thanks for coming up with this update though.
