This fourth edition of the best-selling textbook, Human Genetics and Genomics, clearly explains the key principles needed by medical and health sciences students, from the basis of molecular genetics, to clinical applications used in the treatment of both rare and common conditions. A newly expanded Part 1, Basic Principles of Human Genetics, focuses on introducing the reader to key concepts such as Mendelian principles, DNA replication and gene expression. Part 2, Genetics and Genomics in Medical Practice, uses case scenarios to help you engage with current genetic practice. Now featuring full-color diagrams, Human Genetics and Genomics has been rigorously updated to reflect today’s genetics teaching, and includes updated discussion of genetic risk assessment, “single gene” disorders and therapeutics.   Key learning features include: Clinical snapshots to help relate science to practice ‘Hot topics’ boxes that focus on the latest developments in testing, assessment and treatment ‘Ethical issues’ boxes to prompt further thought and discussion on the implications of genetic developments ‘Sources of information’ boxes to assist with the practicalities of clinical research and information provision Self-assessment review questions in each chapter Accompanied by the Wiley E-Text digital edition (included in the price of the book), Human Genetics and Genomics is also fully supported by a suite of online resources at www.korfgenetics.com, including: Factsheets on 100 genetic disorders, ideal for study and exam preparation Interactive Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with feedback on all answers Links to online resources for further study Figures from the book available as PowerPoint slides, ideal for teaching purposes The perfect companion to the genetics component of both problem-based learning and integrated medical courses, Human Genetics and Genomics presents the ideal balance between the bio-molecular basis of genetics and clinical cases, and provides an invaluable overview for anyone wishing to engage with this fast-moving discipline.

I purchased the physical book couple of weeks ago as a resource for an upper level genetics class i'm taking this semester and the book is pretty good. But today, actually just a few minutes ago, thought i'd get the kindle version as well so i could do quick simple searches while studying.Overall things might go ok for my searching... but within the first 10 seconds i was dissappointed to see that under "Contents" all it lists is "Part One: Basic Principles of Genetics", there are absolutely no individual chapters titles or links shown. If you want to jump to chapter 5 you either have to page thru the text or do a text search. Not a huge deal, but definitely not a good first impression...

This book is terrible - dense, dull, and poorly written. The authors seem confused about the level of knowledge of the readers, oversimplifying at some points, glossing over important foundation information at others. The layout itself is disorganized, with some figures placed pages away from the text that references them.I don't expect anyone will be looking at this text for a pleasure read, but if you aren't absolutely required to have this book, don't bother...and I highly recommend you find a better text to use as a reference, to help you actually understand the material.

I used this text to teach sophomores in an undergraduate human genetics course in a premedical program of a selective American institution in the middle-east. The structure of the program does not include a formal Genetics course, although students are introduced to elements of formal genetics in their freshman biology course. For this reason, in my opinion the text might have been more suitable for upper level or graduate courses which have more background in genetics. As for the book itself: a strong feature of the book relies on the case-based examples (Clinical Snapshots and other cases in the "Genetics and Genomics in Medical Practice" chapters). Sometime the text reads as a collection of expanded lecture notes, rather than a single body of work. The graphical appearance of the book could be improved.

Good text, required for my grad course. e-version helpful for cut and paste figures into working papers.Only drawback is sparse index.

Product was as expected, good book with introductory material in the first half and more advanced human genetic topics in the second

After being in Medicine for many years, genetics is changing the way we do things and this book will help me understand it all
