Practice Standard For Project Risk Management
Download Free (EPUB, PDF)

The Practice Standard for Project Risk Management covers risk management as it is applied to single projects only. It does not cover risk in programs or portfolios. This practice standard is consistent with the PMBOK® Guide and is aligned with other PMI practice standards. Different projects, organizations and situations require a variety of approaches to risk management and there are several specific ways to conduct risk management that are in agreement with principles of Project Risk Management as presented in this practice standard.

As a college prof who teaches Project Risk Management, I'm always alert for a new text to use in class. This slim book is comprehensive, giving good examples of outputs from tools and techniques. Of course, it's closely aligned to the PMBOK Guide, 4th edition, which makes it easy to use in our M.S. Project Management curriculum which is PMI-GAC. The price is right, and it is readable. It is, however, missing is a good list of potential risk events and a set of templates.

This book is NOT worth the $30+ that PMI charges for it. This book rehashes the processes listed in the Risk chapter of the PMBOK, and doesn't add any insights (or examples, or other guidance on application) beyond what the PMBOK covers. If you are pursuing PMI's RMP certification, do not waste your time and money on this book. You do not need it. Stick with the PMBOK instead. This 'standard' could have been a lot better if tailoring advice for different sizes of projects, or different industries, had been offered.

As a PMP and MBA prof who teaches Project Risk Management disciplines, i think this book is an important project risk management reference. But it's not a complete reference or a Bible. It's slim, brief and directly addresses processes listed in the Risk chapter of the PMBoK. It lacks more in depth analysis and real world examples. You will need aditional references to better understand real project risk management applications. But i used it in my PMI's RMP certification preparation, along with Risk Management Tricks of the Trade for Project Managers + PMI-RMP Exam Prep Guide and PMBoK Guide 4th edition.

Do not waste your time or money on this book. Almost $40 for this book? Are you kidding me. The book is very small and an easy read but definitely did not help in my study preparation. PMI should be ashamed for putting this garbage out! PMI should put out a more quality book for RMP just as they have done for PMP (PMBOK).

Easy read but when it comes to the exam it is not the book to choose. I will find value in the book as a quick reference guide however.

Like all PMI materials, they need someone to teach them how to typeset. Its confusing to navigate. about 50% came from the PMBOK. Not sure why we needed to have the stuff twice.

Covers additional details which are not mentioned in PMBOK, additional concepts helped me to explore more on the Project Management risk area.

This book is a informative guide I can easily recommend to anyone considering risk and how to managing it.
