This book is a beautiful, intricate depiction of a colorful and complicated place and people. The photographs are unique and intimate while also defining Cuba as I know it from my travels. I am also a longtime fan of both Brian Andreas and Pico Iyer, and the integration of their personal interpretations of the country complete the story. Even the layout is impeccable, with Andreas' stories on opaque vellum sheets over Resnick's colorful photographs shining through. Worth its weight in gold!!

This is a photographic masterpiece capturing the spirit of the Cuban people through the eyes of Lorne Resnick. I had the good fortune to travel with Lorne to Cuba as a part of a photographers group in February of 2014. In my life, I have been to every state in the union and over 60 countries and this was my most impactful travel experience of all of them. I will always remember the roof top party in old Havana at sunset, and the concert in a private home in Trinidad, and the magic of a night at the Tropicana. I will remember the faces of the children and teenagers we saw in the schools and at their outside activities learning how to box, training for the Cuban Circus, and practicing ballet. And I will remember walking along the Malecon at sunrise, and looking out the back window of my hotel before going to bed at the dimly lit streets and the 50's american cars roaring up and down the street belching smoke.Lorne's 20 years of travel to a country he dearly loves has allowed him to cultivate lifetime friendships with the people and places you will see in this book. He was so generous in sharing all these relationships with us. It allowed us to see the Cuban people for their life, spirit, and humanity. Lorne's photographic talent counseled us to get in close and shoot the emotion of a scene rather the simply recording the event. You can see that vision in all the pages of this book complimented by the words and stories of Brian Andreas, Pico Iyer, and Gerry Badger, who bring language to the emotions of the images. I spent several weeks going through this book savoring and remembering. Lorne's attention to detail in the colors and printing really brings these images to life. This book is a true work of art!

I ordered this book and received it yesterday. It contains a lot of beautiful art in paint and photograhy. Each page has a poetic statement regarding the activity depicted. The only problem is that the writing is backwards, which I find very irritating. The reader needs to either learn to read backwards or put the book behind and read it with a handheld mirror. Why this is so is beyond me.

As one who knows Cuba intimately, having traveled to the island many times since 2000, I can say without reservation, there is no book on the market with a better depiction of what Cuba was, is, and will be. The spirit of the Cuban people jumps out of each page and into your mind and heart. It is this spirit that will define Cuba in the future and when paging through this wonderful book, you know that Cuba will rise up and succeed by seeing the eyes and spirit of the people who Lorne captured so lovingly. It is a large book--a true "coffee table" book and it is to be savored. The velum pages with elegant verse to match the images were written by Brian Adreas, and the forward by famed travel writer and novelist Pico Iyer is just wonderfulYou will throughly enjoy this lovely book. It will take you to Cuba and make you cry.

I found this publication extraordinary! As an amateur photographer, I was not only drawn to the subject matter of each photo, but to the composition, light, and all the other elements that make a photo great and meaningful to the viewer. Every photo could be a lesson in mastering the camera. but then, I too was drawn to the desire to go there, be there and experience the life and culture in Cuba that one will feel as they focus on the photos. Simply brilliant and a must publication for anyone's travel and world cultural library. Thanks for such a contribution Lorne to us all.

Lorne Resnick has captured the heart and soul of Cuba and its people in this brilliant collection. I have worked as a photographer for nearly fifty years. If I were to spend another fifty years in pursuit of perfection, I could only hope to get close to Lorne’s accomplishment. This book is nothing short of divine.Lorne has the eye of the master. His prints not only glow with vibrant colors and light, they bring the subjects to life. They speak to you about Cuba… growing up, growing old, struggles, joys and all things that live in our minds and hearts. You don’t just look at the images; you have silent conversations with them. The stories by Brian Andreas are delightful and insightful. The book is even richer for them.If you’ve ever been to Cuba, this book will take you back. If you’ve never been to Cuba, this book is the next best thing. This is clearly a masterpiece.

The photographs are amazing. A true depiction of the countries culture and its people. Makes me want to go back to Cuba. Cora Del Grande

This is a beautifully designed book covering the timeless beauty of Cuba. Where it has been hidden from the rest of the World and there was time for Lorne Resnick to photograph the people, the landscape, interesting architecture and my personal favorite...the cars. This book is a big, fascinating and heavy art book that you will want to look at with archival care as you turn the pages because this book will be one that you will want to pass on to your family. Thank you for creating this book for those of us that may never make it to Cuba to see the real thing. Be blessed on your journey where ever your camera takes you.
