Cortical Visual Impairment: An Approach To Assessment And Intervention
Download Free (EPUB, PDF)

The current leading cause of visual impairment among children is not a disease or condition of the eyes, but cortical visual impairment (CVI)-also known as cerebral visual impairment-in which visual dysfunction is caused by damage or injury to the brain. The definition, nature, and treatment of CVI are the focus of great concern and widespread debate, and this complex condition poses challenges to professionals and families seeking to support the growth and development of visually impaired children. On the basis of more than 30 years' experience in working with hundreds of children of all ages with CVI, Christine Roman-Lantzy has developed a set of unique assessment tools and systematic, targeted principles whose use has helped children learn to use their vision more effectively. This one-of-a-kind resource provides readers with both a conceptual framework with which to understand working with CVI and concrete strategies to apply directly in their work.

When my son was diagnosed with CVI I had a horrible time trying to find any vision therapists to work with him, and didn't know how to help him myself until I found this book. Though it isn't aimed at parents it is written in very plain terms, is easy to understand, and has been incredibly helpful. A wonderful resource for parents trying to learn more about CVI and how they can help their children.

I was looking for a practical book to learn more about CVI. This is an excellent resource that clearly explains the levels of CVI and what to work on in each level. It has many suggestions for home and school. Great book from an authority on CVI.

This book is a must-have for any parent / teacher / therapist of a child with CVI. It defines the characteristics and starts to give strategies for dealing with each. The key with CVI is to realize it is not limited to "therapy time". The whole approach for the child must be changed and conscientiously set up. Once you understand the basics, the hardest part is remembering to do it consistently and teaching everyone in the child's life to also be consistent. But applying the strategies DO work and the child's brain can indeed change and learn to functionally process vision. I have seen it and continue to see it with my three year old. One day, the understanding of CVI and more widespread, CVI-appropriate interventions will be the norm. Until then, all pioneers, read this book ! :) Dr Roman - Thanks for writing it and we look forward to subsequent CVI releases.

Bought this for my wife as she's taking a class taught by Dr. Roman-Lantzy. Comprehensive coverage of the topic and well written. Unless you're in desperate need for the information in this book, you should wait for the next edition, which should be coming out in the next few months.

If you work in the area of children with Cortical Visual Impairment then this is the best book I've ever read. It's research based, informative and provides a step- by - step guide of how to assess children with CVI and how to implement a program to improve functional vision.

Christine Roman-Lantzy is amazing! Just attended a training with her and she is hands down-AMAZING! Can't wait for her new book to come out!

I have bought two for work, third one on a chain, as previous two walked off. Concrete explanations, good examples.

My 18 month old daughter has CVI and this book has been a great reference for us.
