Half way through the book. I very rarely write reviews on books but this one certainly warrants it. I agree with the sentiments of the other reviewers. It is an excellent read for advanced financial advisors and provides enough framework to speak intelligently on the subject. Very well written

In the often dull industry of insurance, Taken Captive shatters the mold. Not only does Taken Captive explain the traditional uses for captives very well, it outlines some very useful applications of this flexible, financial planning instrument. The topics explained in the "Advanced Concepts" chapter alone are worth far more than the price of the book.

I bought this book hoping to learn more about this interesting part of financial risk management, especially as it relates to the healthcare industry. After an informative start the author gets a bit bogged down in repeatedly cautioning readers to be aware that tax deductibility of premiums is not guaranteed and to be aware of promoters who sell the idea without warning about it.That said, the book is fascinating. I learned that captive insurance is used widely, with both onshore and offshore captives, by both corporations and wealthy individuals, especially to reduce liability whilst at the same time storing wealth that can be accessed at a later date. Accumulated premiums can be held within the captive and paid out as dividends or loaned to the parent.All-in-all, a very good introduction and I look forward to the next volume, which will hopefully categorize and compare the different jurisdictions (Bermuda versus Cayman versus Vermont) and perhaps make recommendations between different captive administrators.

Very informative and worth the read. Easy to understand and follow if you are familiar with the insurance industry. Wes's explanation on what captive insurance companies are, how they work, what it takes to get them licensed, how they are taxed, what policies they can issue and many of the other Captive subjects, is very clear. This is a good book for advisors to give to clients that may be intrested in captives.

This book was a great introduction to Captives and how they work. Taken Captive is an easy read and explains the process of setting up a captive as well as going over why a captive is or isn't a good fit for certain clients. This is very informative and has opened up my client base to new opportunities of alternative risk financing. This is definitely a book that needs to be in the library of all advisors.
