As a physician I have referenced many books on laboratory medicine. This is by far one of the best for providing a concise, understandable, and more importantly, practical means of understanding laboratory tests and their clinical relevance.

Dr. Desai's book is thorough and well organized; a fantastic reference to help you work through case studies and patient admissions. It is most useful for meticulous internal medicine patient write-ups. I highly recommend it to all med students, especially those going into the clinical years.

This is one of my all time favorite book purchases for office reference. I love the step-by-step approach to interpreting abnormal labs. I am a big fan or algorithms and this book has a lot of them!

This book contains a lot of clinically relvant information which is easilyaccessible to the busy reader. This guide can be read as a whole or it canserve as a reference book. In every case the book can be recommended tomedical students as well as to experienced doctors.

This book was required for a class and while the information that is covered is very thorough, they seem to leave many other things out. There is also a lot of page jumping to follow information. Definitely would not be my first choice.

Quick and easy background explanation for labs and algorithms to tell you why. I have been in medicine for over 10 years (PA). This is the second version of this book I have purchased, and will continue as updates are made.

I found this book to be extremely helpful during basic science, especially in case-based classes or lectures, my savior on the wards, and it has continued to serve me well during residency. This book is well written, providing enough background information as to facillitate use by medical students but also providing more advanced explainations for those at a higher level. The flow charts for the interpretation and evaluation of abnormal laboratory values are very helpful. I would highly recommend this book. There used to be a pocket companion with the flow charts available, but I haven't seen it listed in a while. It does not provide the in depth explainations found in the larger book, but is much more practicle for carrying in your pocket on call.

I don't know why this doesn't have a newer version. I haven't found any other books that lay the descriptions of each lab out so succinctly. Great book, recommend for any medical library.
