I'd recommend this book to all those who want to learn flash principles and how to shoot in all modes including TTL, manual, HSS, wireless and radio with transmitters & receivers. If you have this knowledge you are also fit to use it on studio strobes as well. This is a clearly written foundations course with advanced tips and tricks as well. Well worth the money. Get your flash ready to produce creative photographs with light.
This is the second book of the series that I’ve purchased, and it felt like a natural extension of the first (“Photography cookbook 52 photographic recipes”).I purchased this book with moderate experience in photography, but little when it came to flash. A couple of years ago I purchased a Canon 430EX flash, but it has been somewhat underutilized in that time (beyond learning some basics about TTL, flash exposure comp, bouncing the flash for portraits, I didn’t really leave that comfort zone).This book changed for things for me. Everything technical is very well explained (and you’ll finally be able explain every acronym you come across). Moreover, the relationship between any flash or camera setting in relation to any other is made very clear. But the highlight (bad pun?) is really the use cases that it walks through (covering setup, equipment, technical and environmental challenges and risks, and the result) and how I’ve found that the combination of what the book covers pretty generalize to every use-case I’ve come across since.I’d say that the book’s really worth it alone for a few of its diagrams, charts and tables.
One of my favorite books. I knew nothing about flash except what I was taught in a 1 day course. this book breaks down even more than what I learned. I enjoy trying the different shutter speeds to see the effect on the flash and camera. get a sense for myself what it does.
