This book lives up to the reputation of Falcon Guides in general. It contains excellent maps and trail descriptions, and information about the wildlife and plantlife, and area history. There is also helpful information about campgrounds and shuttle services. I recommend it.

This guide would be very helpful for someone traveling to the Everglades. However I got it for reference photos for a painting and the photos were black & white, which detracted from it for my purposes. For visitors, though, it would be a nice book.

Although I am a resident of South Florida and regularly visit the Everglades, I found this book useful for guests I took there. The book covers both the most and least accessible areas of Everglades National Park and other parks (Big Cypress Preserve, Fakahatchee Strand, Collier-Seminole State Park, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, CREW Marsh, 2 Miami-Dade County Parks).I gave the book 4 instead of 5 stars as the author could have included a bit more historical information about the park's origins. Such as the Royal Palm area was once a resort and the straight Shark Valley 7 mile portion of the tram/bike road was built for oil exploration, how the park was acquired, etc...It would also have been useful to have pictures of each poisonous plant and snake described as a caution and the index could use improvement. Finally, this book could also use some updating as it was published in 2005 and since that time the Park Service offers tours of the Nike Missile Base during certain times of the year.Overall I found the book a nice aid for a visit to Everglades National Park.

We spent a week in Southern Florida a year ago tooling around in a rental car with camping gear. What good sense of me to get this excellent little guide before planning the trip. It provided us with good information about Everglades National Park, of course, but also about the National Forests and State Parks nearby. There are lots of places to explore and campsites available to you. I particularly want to recommend Collier-Seminole State Park for those who don't know about it. Camping there was superb, and that park is within an easy drive to the many fine beaches and wilderness reserves on the SE Florida coast. We spent one memorable morning at this park on a Kayak and the price of that guided tour was very reasonable. So I recommend this guide to the wilderness areas near Miami. When we were at the National Park they were tearing down the hotel so camping was the only option. This guide was not quite up-to-date about that, but maybe a newer edition is being planned. If you go with camping gear, you don't need a motel or resort to stay in, but you probably will need reservations for any campground in midwinter.

Best buy before taking trip to the Everglades. Made a checklist of all the stops along the way. Also where to stop on the road to Key West.

For several years, I have used this guide for both kayak and flats boat trips.

Very useful guide,.

nice
