NMS Pediatrics, Fifth Edition is the ideal reference and review for medical students in the pediatrics clerkship. The concise, outline-format coverage of essentials and end-of-chapter USMLE-style questions offer excellent preparation for the shelf/end-of-rotation exam and USMLE. This thoroughly updated edition focuses on areas emphasized in the most current Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) curriculum. The revised questions better reflect the level of difficulty of shelf/end-of-rotation exams. The book has a new two-color design and wider margins for notes. A companion Website offers the fully searchable text, case studies, and a comprehensive examination.

I thought this was one of the most complete pediatrics books out there. I had my pediatrics rotation before internal medicine, so I wanted a book that had complete information, especially about critical care management, etc. I used Blueprints and Case Files and thought this NMS book was the most helpful for the shelf. I used the new 2009 version.

The book is very indepth and takes time to read BUT I made a 99% on the Peds shelf exam using this book +case files. I did this for General surgery as well and made the same score

This covered minutae without perseverating on one topic for too long. There were little facts that I read that came up on exam questions or on wards that only I knew because others were reading First Aid. I was able to read through whatever chapters were being covered each week on the Peds clerkship without it being overwhelming and I made it through the entire book. I read the parts I highlighted a couple days before Step 2 and I was set.

I only read a little over half, but I think it covers a good amount of detail without doing too much detail. I thought the chapter of blueprints I read had tiny font and was just trying to write every possible thing. I was glad that I bought NMS because it was much easier to read and very clear. I got above 90 on the shelf using this, case files and the online CLIPP cases, so I would recommend this over blueprints.

It is an okay book but not great. I didn't find it that comprehensive and it had a lot of details that were not on the shelf and too detailed to be important. It is also hard to get through since everything is in outline form with almost no pictures/diagrams
