Flatiron Classics: Easy Rock Climbs Above Boulder (Colorado Mountain Club Guidebooks)
Download Free (EPUB, PDF)

The first and best guidebook to the Flatirons of Colorado. Most routes are 5.6 or easier, completely updated to include seasonal closures. Soaring up from the Boulder foothills, the Flatirons are famous for moderate climbing; they are not only a great training ground for more difficult climbs, but more importantly, Flatiron routes are simply fun.

Good compilation, would be even better with maps or trail drawings of the Boulder trails system, which would really help. Written trail descriptions only go so far. Weird route numbering system is unnecessary, IMO, just need photo route lines and names. On the very good side, this is the most complete collection of flatiron climbs, I found a number of new routes to do, and that's the point.

Lots of climbs listed, which is nice. However, there is very little detail about each route.

I own around 20 guidebooks and this is easily the worst. Poor route description and topo, grainy photographs and a numbering system to the climbs which seems designed to be confusing.Additionally the guidebook is not consistent in its content. For example there are many approaches listed in the book with no mention of distance or real time but simply labeled as "a few minutes hike from Boulder". Well some of these approaches are 5 minutes and some are 45 minutes. I want a guidebook to give me a solid description of what to expect on the approach, the climb and the descent. This book fails at all three. Thankfully there is a new Flatirons book from Fixed Pin due soon.

I got this as a Christmas present for my boyfriend who is an avid climber. He loves this book for a quick set of Boulder climbs.

Wish the topo's were a little more detailed.
