I've recently moved from being an ER PA to a Hospitalist PA and I couldn't do my job everyday without this gem. As a PA I didn't get as much inpatient experience as my Physician counterparts so this thing has saved my butt numerous times as a quick reference for lab interpretations, documentation, fluid management, and everything else that I never had to think about when I was in the ER. As mentioned in another review, if you are not doing inpatient work then you should skip this book. I would never use it if I was doing FP work because many of the chapters would not apply. Lucky for me though, this thing is indispensable.

I was recommended this book by an older resident, I find it a complete reference, but not any more complete or descriptive as any other reference. I do like their explanations of how results are acquired and they are short explanations.PROS:clear and concise explanationsCONS:not any more or less complete than any other pocket reference book, nor helpful memory tips.

This has to be the most useful book ever. I carry it around constantly and it answered more than one question. It's well organized and the information is accurate but short and easy to understand. It's perfect for a pocket guide. I was a fan of bates pocket for a long time but i'm currently loving this one.

Full of useful, practical knowledge for the wards. The how-to sections on procedures are especially helpful. Overall I great resource to refer to.

If you are a resident (especially intern), or medical student on clinical rotations, please do yourself a favor and buy this. Contains so many things you wish you were told earlier (or at least told in a different way). Excellent for polishing your medical repertoire.

I bought an earlier version of this book during PA school back in 1994 and wore it out. Loved it so much I bought this electronic version that has been updated to use for procedures that I do not perform on a regular basis. A must for PA and medical students (Now an MD)! Highly recommend.

Awesome for rotations. If you arm yourself with this and the mass general book ( the green one), you'll be ready to take on the clinical phase for sure. This book compliments the mass general one perfectly, as scutt monkey talks of procedures, note writing formats, drugs etc, and mass general is sort of a pocket sized Harrison's manual of medicine. The other great thing scutt has is a list of most of the labs and it list differentials for high or low lab values, ie high Ca, then a list of things to consider that may cause elevated Ca levels. Only complaint is it is a little heavier then mass general but I still think well worth it.

This is the sine qua non when you are starting out in medicine and in a succinct and excellent format.I have been in medicine for decades but purchased it for my students. They still find it helpful and the go-to book.
