UNDERSTANDING THE ESSENTIALS OF CRITICAL CARE NURSING, 2/e introduces all foundational elements of critical care nursing that are essential to delivering safe, effective care, and provide the basis for the eventual delivery of sophisticated, expert care. It focuses on the techniques and concepts most important for novice critical care nurses to understand, and the care of patients with the most common critical illnesses, establishing the groundwork students need to become increasingly effective and capable of offering increasingly advanced care. Key topics include: nursing assessment of critically ill patients; evidence based practices; safety initiatives; commonly used medications; and leading technologies for providing better care. This edition contains extensive new coverage ranging from 2010 AHA Guidelines to safety and evidence-based practice; and calls greater attention to nursing actions associated with collaborative care.

This here is a classic textbook. You spend tons of money on them every semester. They either end up as door stops or in a bon fire at the end of the year. Think wisely before purchasing this book, maybe rent it. Or if you are an excellent student buy it. Maybe read it page for page, you will definitely learn something.

There are so many times I've been told to hold onto books for nursing school because I will "use them throughout my career". This is the only one I am holding onto. Easy to read, gets to the point, organized fabulously. Even if you're not going to become a critical care nurse I think it's a great resource to have.

As a senior nursing student this book is very helpful in understanding more difficult concepts to obtain and process in our final year. My only major criticism of the book is the drawn out portions, especially in the GI and liver chapters. I do like how the author integrated medication tables throughout that were pertinent to what you were doing in the case study or throughout the chapter. Would recommend buying this book for those who really want to go into high acuity areas or are looking to hone their skills in advanced cardiac care or neurological care.

This is one of the few nursing school books for which I actually liked the e-book format. I was able to highlight important parts, and then read them all together to help me study for tests. That's good, because this book is thorough.

I rate my purchase 5 stars, but this book has a LOT of errors in information. Especially in charts with arrows, and labeling figures. There are also errors in the online resources that come with the book. I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't required for my critical care class.

I rented this book because it was a class requirement. This book has great information and a great resource for critical care nurses. I think I may actually purchase this book.I received this book in plenty of time for class. Thanks for the fast delivery.

Passed Critical care in Nursing school. Make sure to keep med surge book as a reference . This book doesn't go into specific details but gives info needed to get basic concept of diseases or conditions and symptoms !

Content is good but there are many pathophysiology concepts that are lacking. There are numerous grammatical errors, inconsistencies in treatment, and incorrect medications listed as well as charts have incorrect information. When reading this book be cautious with the content and double check everything, it is very sloppily edited. (ex. pages 157, 310, 318). Would not recommend this book.
