The third edition of Introduction to Aviation Insurance and Risk Management has provided the opportunity to improve the book and extend its life into the 21st Century. Old material has been deleted and newer, more timely material added. Unlike the previous editions a number of industry professionals have contributed to the new version. Despite these changes the primary purpose of the book remains the same--to introduce the basic principles of insurance and risk with their special application to the aviation industry. It has been designed for several similar, yet distinct audiences: the college student, corporate pilots or fixed base operators, and individuals in the insurance business.

This textbook is an excellent resource for those students interested in developing a knowledge base in aviation insurance and risk management. The text descibes the various policies available for pilots, and aviation related companies. It also outlines the many types of risk management techniques used to ensure company solvency. The authors have made a very large and complicated subject into something more understandable.

I was looking forward to reading this book because the stories and systems involved with insuring massively valuable risks are so interesting. This book has been a let-down because the very poor editing and clearly outdated material obscure and distract from the interesting subject it tries to cover. The books is rife with grammatical errors such as run-on sentences, comma splices, and incomplete phrases. Some of the information has clearly not been updated in over a decade, and it leaves me wondering whether or not anyone actually read through the book before sending it to press.

Now in an updated and expanded third edition, "Introduction To Aviation Insurance And Risk Management" is the collaborative effort of Alexander T. Wells (Academic Director of the Educational Institute of the Aviation Insurance Association) and Bruce D. Chadbourne (Professor of Aviation Business Administration, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University). This new edition features informed and informative contributions by a number of aviation and insurance industry professionals, a glossary, an appendix, self tests, and an index. Strongly recommended reading for students of the aviation industry, airline corporate executives, corporate pilots, fixed based operators, and insurance business professionals, "Alexander T. Wells & Bruce D. Chadbourne" is an essential instruction manual presenting the basic principles of insurance and risk as they apply to the aviation industry. Also very highly recommended and related title from the Krieger Publishing Company are "General Aviation marketing And Management" (1575241927, $68.50) by Alexander T. Wells and Bruce D. Chadbourne, and "Commuter Airlines" (0894649477, $59.50) by Alexander T. Wells and Franklin D. Richey.
