I recently took my boards and I used this book, the online study guide, and my principles and practice of radiation therapy book. I liked the online practice exam because it gave me a good idea of the sections I was strong in and what I needed to focus more on. I use the workbook but I felt that there was not enough information in it, so for me the online study guide, the practice test, and the priciples and practice of radiation therapy books were most helpful. There is also a website called rt-review.com that has some good practice questions on it. I hope this helps whoever is out there getting ready for their boards. =-)
The most useful part of this study guide was the access code it came with for the online material. The questions on the practice exams were very similar to the questions asked on the boards, and the website will break down your score just like the ARRT so you know which areas you need to really focus on. I only studied from this book and "Radiation Therapy Essentials" by Anne Marie Vann for my board exam and did very well!
The online study questions give you a good idea of the type of questions on the exam. However, if I only used this book and online questions I do not think I would have passed the test. I would recommend using at least two other review resources while preparing for the exam.
This guide was a good prep for the boards. The online quiz helped quite a bit to prepare for the test, especially the treatment planning section. The book itself is very thorough, and a good tool to have starting out in this career field to refer back to.
I just recently passed my boards and I can say without question that this book made the process 100X easier. The online exam questions alone are worth the cost. Clear and concise. I will say I liked some of the diagrams a bit more in Radiation Therapy Essentials: Board Preparation Tool but the online exams make this the better buy. I got literally the same score there as I did on my boards as did several of my classmates. They are an excellent guide for if you're really ready or not to take the exams.
I studied this in and out along with Portal Designs in Radiation (can't think of the author but its a small black book),Heals Review Website, and Radformation (was making 90s on the practice test overall)- got to my boards and felt really lost ( I have terrible test anxiety). I literally was taking my boards thinking, well... I'm not even going to retake these, because no matter how much I study I'll still fail. To my flat out amazement, I finally hit the "end review button" on my exam was ready to go home and cry and tell everyone I failed- and I made an 82. I really feel like this review book may be more helpful while in school to help connect ideas, then to rely on for studying for your boards. Last bit of advice, Whenever your taking these boards, don't give up.. I would have done better but I literally gave up the last 30 questions because I was so sure I failed... These boards are meant to be hard, just keep trying even if you feel like you are just giving all the questions your best guess. :) Good luck to everyone!
The practice exam is not compatible with any mobile units.The software program is embarrassing. Where did find these people to design your program?I understand this is the first version of the book...but come on, we live 2015 right now. You are using technology from the 90'sThe book it self I give high rating.
It's a nice review, wish there was more information though. The Washington and Leaver book does a better job reviewing.
