This book is the friggin' respiratory care bible of books!!! i don't know why colleges make u buy new books each term for the respiratory program, they should just issue u this. i was struggling heavily in my class reading the incomprehensible books they assigned me. i bought this along with the workbook for it, said to heck with my instructor's lectures and books, and just read this book. i now have an "A" in the class so that should tell u something. make sure u get the workbook for this, as this was the part that just sent my grade thru the roof, the author is funny and helps u out alot.

Like most monolithic, "kitchen sink" books created by numerous editors, this text book suffers from choppy, disjointed flow; multiple confusing terminology; conflicting explanations, descriptions and specifications; lengthy descriptions of out of use, outdated equipment and methods (though not as bad as the Mosby Equipment book). Furthermore, there are no free supplemental online or other digital material which would help the student digest this rather large quantity of material. A classmate purchased the Evolve online supplement for $99 only to discover that it is a complete waste of money: simple silly quizzes and cartoonish, poorly conceived "activities." So this explains why I deducted 2 stars. I added one star because the price is right. On a positive note, the text book is very comprehensive. The AARC tables are very clear and easy to reference, fully supplemented by additional tables that provide additional guidance. Despite the choppy flow, the writing style, though extremely soporific, makes for easy reading. The real problem that the student will encounter with this book, is, when the teacher disagrees with the book, the student must guess on the test which to side with. That problem is certainly not specific to this text, but the problem is greater with this text because so much of the material is outdated and because respiratory care varies from hospital to hospital. Overall, I recommend this book for the first year respiratory care student because it is comprehensive, is a great reference, and will indispensably aid the student in passing the CRT/RRT exams.

I bought the 9th even though the 10th is out because I just needed something to refresh my knowledge. I chose Egan's because it has always been a comprehensive text and that is what I needed; and I chose the 9th because i understood that there weren't many changes between the 9th and 10th. The cost difference was significant. The only downside that I've discovered is that I do not have an user key to access the online resources. Not a deal breaker but just be advised.

Egan's is the standard for the textbook on respiratory care. I have a much older version as well, and this is totally rearranged in a better manner for the learner to quickly grasp the concepts in a better flow. You cannot beat a fundamental textbook on respiratory care. This will give you more than the information you need to not only pass the national board exams but to be an excellent respiratory therapist.

It is like the RRT's bible! everything is in it. I would suggest this to all who want to study and become a RT.edited 08/28/2013:now that I have entered and started the program I feel that this book is useful but its like Egan's believe that the student already know ALL of the keywords and gives you SOME of the definitions in the back of the book. if you get this book you will need to get the definitions of the keywords to understand it fully.

I am a respiratory therapy student with background in nursing. This textbook has generous amounts of useful information. The chapters are well structured with ample diagrams, photographs, AARC guidelines, critical thinking boxes, and numerous charts. I have found it a great source for respiratory concepts. The only drawback is certain assessment parameters and crucial information buried within the text that is not bold type -- but should be. This makes it difficult to use as a quick reference. Egan's Fundamentals of Respiratory Care will not be sold after this course is over. I will be adding it to my personal library of clinical reference books.

Got exactly what I asked for and it was at a price i can't argue. It came when it was promised only thing is when I got it the package was a little damaged, but the book was fine. Im sure it was just during the shipping process though

Egan's may have been the "respiratory bible" at one time, but that time is not now. The organization of the book is very poor and there are many errors that still need to be fixed. Trying to do he workbook is a very large hassle because there is absolutely no order to the questions and trying to pick out the information is insane. Unfortunately respiratory education programs are stuck using Egans.
