Errol Flynn Slept Here: The Flynns, The Hamblens, Rick Nelson, And The Most Notorious House In Hollywood
Download Free (EPUB, PDF)

Documenting the most notorious house in Hollywood, this history spans the life and death of Mulholland Farm, the elegant and infamous mountaintop showplace built by film star Errol Flynn at the height of his fame. While appearing to be stylish and refined, Flynn installed secret passageways, two-way mirrors, and other voyeuristic tools into the house to spy on the famous women he entertained, as well as couples making love. He lived in Mulholland Farm during Hollywood’s Golden Era, when he was the most famous playboy movie star alive, remaining in the home through the rape trial that almost ruined him and the snatching of John Barrymore's body. The intricate story of the farm also spans five continents to include Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, Fidel Castro, Humphrey Bogart, Shirley Temple, Clark Gable, Billy Graham, Johnny Cash, Roy Rogers, the Rolling Stones, and the other two owners of the property, Christian singer/songwriter Stuart Hamblen and rock ‘n’ roll legend Rick Nelson.

I really can't give a review of this book, because on my contribution of this dream come true. ERROL FLYNN SLEPT HERE makes a wonderful addition to any Errol Flynn collector and those of you who are just discovering this wild adventurer! I have been collecting Errol Flynn memorabilia since 1969 and I was lucky enough, when I moved to Los Angeles to meet a lot of people who knew and worked with Errol Flynn.I have known that this book was in the making for years and both Mike and Robert asked me to be a small part in this visually stunning book. I have known Mike Mazzone for close to 30 years and we both had visited Mulholland Farm at different times in 1987. I was very fortunate to be able to go up there for over a year on a daily basis and bring everyone I knew up to the house, to hang out by the pool and walk around in the house.I feel very honored that all my rare photos, that I took on my many trips up to the house, are a part of this fabulous book. I knew when I met Robert Matzen, that he would write a top notch book. I told Robert and Mike that they could use all the photos I had taken up at the house. I wanted my photos to show everyone out there everything you could possibly imagine about the house, that I hope as a successful filmmaker that I could own. When I received my book I was absolutely blown away. I am so proud of Robert and Mike's work in this book and that all my pictures have now found a home for everyone to see and enjoy.Like a lot of people out there, I always wondered what the house looked on the inside. I first saw the outside of the house in 1977. It wasn't until 1987 that I was lucky to get into the house. Now, with this book, everyone can get into the house and see the before, during and after photos of this magnificent home.

Robert Matzen's and Michael Mazzone's book "Errol Flynn Slept Here" is the complete history of the fantastic mansion that the great movie swashbuckler built as his personal lair. This is a riveting, page-turner of a book that is impossible to put down. Errol Flynn purchased 11 lush, green acres on top of one of the Hollywood hills and personaly designed his remote castle-like retreat to get away from the world in complete privacy. Near Mulholland Drive, Errol called it his Mulholland farm which was stocked with a menagerie of animals and even had a riding circle, swimming pool, tennis court, and private casino! This book covers the house and it's infamous secret stairwells and passageways, and what occured within its walls during the 15 years or so Flynn owned it. It's also a detailed chronicle on the rise and fall of Errol Flynn in show business and life.Author's Matzen and Mazzone continue the saga of the Flynn castle on a mountaintop with new owner Christian radio-recording artist Stuart Hamblen and his family, who lived there for over 20 years. Later the house with much of the outer acres already sub-divided was purchased by "rock 'n roll" star and teen idol Rickey Nelson who lived in the mansion until his ill-fated death in a 1986 plane crash. The authors have tracked down many people who actually lived in or visited the house during its half-century of existence. Matzen and Mazzone were astonished to learn that this mansion had a life of its own, and write of the strange, eerie, creepy, and bizarre events experienced by its various owners over the years. Both authors were able to visit the Mulholland farm shortly before its demolition and document the entire mansion and estate inside and out.
