When I bought my D500 a few months ago I wrote Doug and asked if he was planning a book for this great new camera (I had several of his previous books). He wrote back that he was hard at work on it. He notified me that it was available yesterday and I ordered it direct from his site ($14.99). It's less on  but no regrets. It's worth a whole lot more. Just skimming through it I discovered numerous things I didn't pick up reading the Nikon manual. And when you need detailed specifics this is the "go to" book. The Nikon D500 camera is loaded with features and capabilities to meet the needs of enthusiast and professional photographers. Doug Klostermann's "Nikon D500 Experience" is a thorough, clearly written, practical guidebook for this great camera. That he was able to publish such a detailed guide just a few months after the release of Nikon's latest and best crop sensor DSLR speaks to Doug's knowledge of photography and his desire to help photographers of all levels learn and use the D500. I especially appreciate the detailed explanations of the features and settings and the recommendations provided to help get you started using the full features of the D500. The book is well-illustrated and makes good use of actual screen shots of the camera's LCD screen to clarify the menu settings. Doug guides you through all of the D500's features and settings as if he were sitting right next to you with your camera in your hands.
Having purchased a PDF copy of Doug's D500 book from his website, I have no experience with the Kindle edition, but I can attest to the excellence of the content of the book. I also own Doug's ebook "Nikon D810 Experience," which is equally good. A compelling feature of both of these ebooks is the treatment of in-the-field shooting techniques, especially use of autofocus. The autofocus sections of Doug's books are quite specific to the features of the camera that is being discussed, not merely autofocus techniques in general. The graphics are also of exceptionally good quality. I have owned and read several ebooks and hard-copy books that cover various cameras, and the books by Doug Klostermann are the best that I have found.
I have his guides for the d3300 and d750, have read all 3 cover to cover. The guides are complete, cover everything the camera does, are easy to read, easy to find what you're looking for, and easy to understand. In short, the best you can get.
I've bought his books for other cameras, and this, as the others, proved to be extremely helpful. He also provides a link to download spreadsheets for recommended settings, which I have also used in the past. I'm the type who prints out the chapter on menus and custom settings, inputs the recommendations from the spreadsheets (although I do change a couple according to my own preferences), and then reads the rest of the book on-line at my leisure.
I bought this a few weeks ago and have worked my way through it a couple of times since then. It is a great resource and explains many of the confusing (or missing) aspects of the D500 manuals. (You do know there are 5 manuals for the D500 but only one ships with the camera, the rest you need to download.) I even had a couple of questions that Doug was kind enough to answer, and quickly. A great guide overall by a very knowledgeable author.
This is a great book on the Nikon D500. I wasn't sure what to expect, since it was released many months earlier than other upcoming books on the same camera, but I was pleasantly surprised to find tha it was packed with lots of useful information and tips. Highly recommended!
