I just purchased this book because i am planning to build a darkroom in my basement, and it has provided me with alot of information. And if you have a really small bathroom and you think it's impossible to turn it into a darkroom and use it at the same time, then you better get this book. There are floorplans/layouts & elevation provided, as well as pictures to give you an idea of how your darkroom will turn out. There are so many alternatives given that you can't go wrong in builiding the perfect darkroom of your own and save money as well.

This is an excellent book that follows you through the process of determning a room, making modifications if neccesary and creating the physical space for a darkroom. In addition creating the room, it will take you through the equipment requirements and general layout and design for a good working darkroom.I used the layout and general design sections to create my own darkroom, and found all the lists, worksheets and diagrams invaluable. There is even a small section in the beginning that takes you through some famous photographers darkrooms. All the information you would need, and well organized.

I found this book to be very practical and direct. What impressed me most was that the authors took into account the fact that not everyone has the ideal accomodations for a darkroom. Each section goes into the how-to of every phase of setting up a simple, basic to the sophisticated darkroom. Everything is spelled out in detail allowing you to "opt out" of any part of the process that you feel may be "over your head" (call the plummer) and to deal with those that are within your reach. In between, the book allows you to peek at how others have set up their facilities. Over all a great book for anyone looking to set up a dark room the "right way".

This is the book you want if you are going to build a darkroom. It is excelent! I got another book and half of it was how to build a wall using drywall. This one was not like that and really had plans and technical information that you want.

This book is amazing. It really has everything you would need to know to build a darkroom, from building the walls, doing plumbing and electricity, to how to build a sink. I am so happy I bought this book - there were so many little things I didn't even consider until I started reading this book. Now I know what I need to build the darkroom, and can actually envision what it will be like. I have so many ideas, and I'm really excited about building my darkroom!

This was a fantastic read. Living in an apartment, it has been rather difficult to situate my darkroom in an efficient and useable way.First of all, this book takes you on a tour of the darkrooms of the famous from around the world. It is rather inspiring to see how some of the world's most beautiful images were produced in a space no bigger than my bathroom - it gives me hope for my city-living self! Many useful plans are offered in the New Darkroom Handbook - it literally goes through EVERYTHING you need to think of when building a darkroom, from how to hang drywall and rework plumbing, to what vent baffle you will need to block out the light. I was very impressed with the detail, although some people may find it a little too much.It may be 2012, but film is not dead, and the need for a proper darkroom is still just as important. Sure some of the pricing might be off, but the plans and ideas are certainly still quite applicable. The tutorials, equipment lists and diagrams are invaluable and this book is one of the few places that goes into such detail anymore!Highly recommended!

I used to have this book back in the day when I grew up with a dark room in my house. I took photography in highschool just so I could get an easy "A". Now that a friend and I are talking about putting together an "old school" darkroom, I searched all over and found this old standby. It's a perfect "get you started" book.
