From the publisher: "In Photographs & Words the two principal concerns of Wright Morris' career are found in a new collaboration...This volume is the first to give emphasis to Morris' contribution to the visual arts with matchless laser-scan reproductions of his images. They represent with elegance, clarity and precision what the camera eye, and the photographer's eye, perceive in the visible world around us."

Wright Morris has been called one of America's leading photographers. Coupled with his comments this book makes an excellent survey of his prolific career. He photographs abandoned homes, shops, barns, silos...all with the theme that they are not "worn out'" but instear have life worn into them. I find this a lovely metaphor for all of life.

This is an wonderful book, not just for anyone who enjoys photography, but for anyone who enjoys good writing, and especially for the person who is curious as to the creative process. Here is an author-photographer writing in great detail about why and how he wrote his books that combined words and his own photographs so uniquely. From the Introduction by James Alinder: "Each speaks for itself, the photographs with unexampled brilliance and fidelity, the words in a mood of affectionate reminiscence. For the reader and viewer it is a happy occasion. Morris writes for the first time, in some detail, of the complex ideas that have shaped his books of photographs and texts, and are equally manifest in his novels."Wright Morris was an immensely talented and creative artist, full of humor and interesting perspectives - and sadly most of us have never heard of him. This book is a great start for getting to know his genius and humor.
