I always buy Rick Steves' book about wherever I am planning to travel. Lots of good general information as well as detailed descriptions of where and how to get around, sightsee, eat, and shop. This book is just what I needed for a Scandanavian cruise as it describes cruise port cities, not the whole country. It contains instructions for cutting it apart into very small books, one for each port city, so there is no need to bring the whole thing....only those cities you will actually visit. I can't comment on the usefullness of the information in this particular book yet, as my trip is next week, but all previous Rick Steve books have proved invaluable when sightseeing otherwide unguided. There are also chapters about choosing, booking, packing for, and boarding a cruise ship if you haven't done that before.

This book, after we read and annotated it very carefully, allowed us to reach the conclusion that the longer cruises we had considered would not provide us with the kind of experiences we wanted. It made for great reading, captured the flavor of the sights, and – based on other Steves's books that we've used (and always reading between the lines) – was very helpful. I particularly like the author's recommendation that the user easily pull out the batch of pages that would be needed during travel, and so reduce the bulk and the weight of your luggage. This has worked very well for us, especially on long European trips via railroad.

For anyone with any intellectual curiosity who wants to make the most of their experience doesn't want to just go along with the pack, this book is for you. It not only discusses shipboard life, but how to make the most of port experiences.

This book is absolutly required reading for anyone going on a Baltic cruise. I just returned from a 11 day cruise on the Princess Regal. Before leaving I cut up the book, yes, really did section it by city and rebound each section with heavy duty packing tape. I numbered each in the order I would be visiting. I added a sheet of the "can't miss" sights so I wouldn't. Took each day's "book" in my backpack as I made my way through city. Ricks walking tours we great as well as his food recommendations. But the real benefit is reading and planning way before my trip so I was able to book tours and pre purchase tickets for transportation and individual sights. I would of wasted so must of my limited time if I didn't use this book. Thanks Rick!

Buy it. Just buy it. As usual, Rick's advice is a vacation-saver. He rescues me from a different traveling catastrophe on nearly every page. The bonus links to audio tours and other resources are priceless. I'm taking only one book with me--this one.

We used this book on a recent trip to the Baltic. It was great. It has lots of useful information. We actually tore it into sections so we only took the citiy we were in that day with us. This way we didn't have to take the entire heavy book around all day.

Fantastic book! I'll post an updated review after our Baltic Sea Cruise but thus far I have nothing but positive comments about this book. Easy to read, designed to be sectioned so you don't have to carry the entire book on each outing, great tips and provided great info for us to make decisions regarding activities at each port we visit.

Nice to have one book on Kindle for all the ports on a cruise without having all of the lodging info, etc. By having this on Kindle I was able to access it on my phone which really lightens the load! Mediterranian cruise book is equally as good.
