I purchase this book before taking my family (2 adults, 3 children under age 12) to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Within an hour of opening the book, I realized this was the perfect book for our trip. He does a great job in immersing you in the history of the island with interesting highlights and pictures, rather than some of the text heavy history you get in books like Lonely Planet. Both my wife and I read it while driving up, and were quickly pulled through stories about the history, culture, wildlife, food, and attractions of the entire area, which added context to our trip and made it so much more enjoyable. His reviews of the different areas to go were spot on, and allowed us to quickly narrow which areas of the island we wanted to go to, and what would be appropriate with kids and our interests. We then enhanced his trail reviews with the publicly available detailed trail maps handed out at the park and in Bar Harbor. He also did a great job reviewing the local restaurants, and we are thankful he did. Thurston's was one of our favorite stops, and we found it due to his his book.Topping it off, in a strange coincidence he was speaking at the local library while we were in town. He was extremely gracious and personable to everyone who came up to him, and you quickly realize the passion and real person behind the writing of this book. He really is a local!

Excellent, comprehensive guide to all aspects of Acadia, Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island. I live near the park, have camped there innumerable times and this guide has provided me with information I did not know before.

I own the previous edition and love it. Used it extensively while visiting Maine.I do, however, have a problem with this listing. If this particular edition listed is published March 29, 2016 and it is currently March 16, 2016 how can this be in stock with 11 available? I fear ordering this will get me an older edition.

This book was very helpful and well organized. We consulted it each evening as we planned our next day. From hiking to kayaking, restaurants, boat tours, biking and the scenic park loop road, it provided everything we needed. I bought three different Acadia books and this one became our go to favorite.

This was my go-to guide on a recent trip to Bar Harbor and the Acadia National Park. Extremely well written and comprehensive, it gave excellent tips on where to go, what to do and what to expect. Especially helpful were his rankings of the various hikes in Acadia National Park. They were just as he described, and I was glad I took his advice on how to best enjoy the Park.

This is an essential guidebook for anyone planning a trip to Acadia National park. With the guidebook as our tour guide.on a recent trip to Acadia, we were able to visit out of the way places that we would have never discovered without the guidebook. We loved Acadia, Maine, and the people

For the first time visitor to MDI, this hits all the best. Best hikes, best restaurants, best activities, best locations to visit. Includes a brief history of the island.

My go to reference guide for Acadia National Park. I take it with me and refer to it constantly. I highly recommend it for anyone planning a trip to the area.
